Exercise is a Fool's Errand For Weight Loss

I know, this sounds like here say, and I'm willing to be crucified for it. But it is my suggestion that in the fight for losing weight and gaining the body that you deserve, you should be focusing on diet and not weight loss. In this article I'm going to show you why losing weight is a fool's errand when it comes to exercise. Yet how many people do we see running marathons and doing aerobics hoping to lose weight. Now it is quite another thing to exercise for the fitness and overall health benefits that exercise provides, but these reasons should remain very separate from trying to exercise for weight loss.

Now as mentioned before, exercise is to be condoned. But it should be condoned for reasons other than weight loss. This is not to say that it doesn't help in the weight loss war, but that it should not be your main gun in your weight loss arsenal. Here is why this is important to remember. Let's take a 170 pound male who runs at a fairly decent pace of 6 mph for one hour. That's a pretty good workout session wouldn't you agree? Well, just how many calories has he burned off? Just shy of 650. Now that might seem like a lot of calories and it is pretty decent. Roughly a third or so of the recommended 2000 calories a day. But I imagine you'd pretty hungry after a run like that, and eating a Big Mac would give you almost as many calories as it took to burn in that one hour run. Would it take you an hour to eat a Big Mac? Not likely.

So do exercise because you enjoy it and it is healthy and has a ton of tremendous benefits, but don't do it as your sole or largest item in trying to lose weight. You'll have much greater success by trying to cut back on calories by 20% to 25%. And if you eat smart and healthfully, you shouldn't feel hungry on that type of restriction. If you're clever you'll be amazed at how much food you can eat for around 1500 calories.
